Do you know a lot of people wake up in the morning and think "how much sugar is in rum?!". The Karachi Medical Gazette did an in depth investigation into this matter and found it's a worldwide issue. The numbers don't lie. Likely tens of thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of people are struggling with this on a daily basis. It's affecting their mental and physical health. Nightmares, waking up in panic, extreme sweating and fear of walking through the rum aisle are common. Most are exhibiting a certain level of anger towards rum producers, combined with a feeling of shame about being fooled by them, according to the Karachi Medical Gazette.
I feel bad this is causing trouble for so many people. However, it is providing an opportunity for me. I've always wanted to be a rum celebrity. This is my chance, as I have the solution to this problem! The Sugar List!

The latest update to the list seems a while ago, but I do add rums silently in the background. Some of the more outstanding new entries are from Takamaka. Turns out you have to be careful which expression you buy from them if you don't like added sugar. Their Kreol Cask is one to avoid for example. Cihuatán comes up a couple of times. This is no surprise, as they are well known for doctoring their rums, just like Planteray. Their Grande Reserve from Barbados, I mean France, comes in at 16g/L of added sugar. That even beats Bumbu XO with its 11g/L.
There is some positivity as well. Black Tears Super Dry is actually super dry. Unlike Planteray's Cut And Dry Coconut, which has 38g/L of sugar. Crossfire, Chairman's Reserve 1931 and a couple of Outlier rums are all getting the thumbs up.
